Our day out in Hastings in East Sussex.

Hastings by the sea.

Hastings by the sea.

Every couple of months, my oldest school friend Dalia and I love to fit in a little day trip to somewhere we haven't been before.  So I suggested Hastings as, despite it only being 'down the road' from Brighton, I haven't visited this little fishing port for decades and she had never been.

It's all part of my plan to get a better work/life balance & a chance for us to have a girls' catch up which, of course, is never without a fashion shoot.  Poor woman, I don't think she'll ever forget being made to stand in the middle of a very busy road because I was so determined to get a fabulous blue door in the shot!

The old part of Hastings has some beautiful buildings & architecture.

Hastings was a revelation. The town used to be very run down but masses of money has been pumped into it and it's now full of renovated buildings, from medieval to Victorian architecture, interesting independent shops & cafes, and antiques & bric a brac galore . If you visit, walk towards the old fishing port and hang a left to climb up the hill to find gorgeousness round every corner.

After a fab lunch at Petit Fi, we were ready to do some fashion shots. Autumn has been so kind to those of us lucky enough to live in the South of England, still being able to wear just a leather jacket or a light coat on the beach.

Details of the clothes are below. Hope you're impressed with our constant effort of style on a budget! Not bad for seniors are we!

My headscarf is a left over piece of material from a sale bin.  (You can see how I tie my headscarves on my latest video they keep my ears warm & hide roots!) My sunnies are vintage frames, gifted to me, and even older than I am! The gorgeous faux fur collar is my only new winter purchase, from Jigsaw. Everything else is from 3 to 10 years old: leather jacket from Zara, an ancient cashmere short sleeved sweater underneath, necklace from Montenegro for 26 Euros (that's new!), leggings from Zara, bag from DKNY, and my biker boots are from Kurt Geiger found in a summer sale three years ago - the best time to look for winter boots!

And now to my stylish friend Dalia. Again, a canny shopper who looks every inch as you'd expect an Italian woman to dress , without spending a fortune.

Dalia's sunglasses are by Vera Wang from TK Max, her top's from Karen Millen, and she found her reversible coat in Italy for 30 Euros! She's the one who taught me that the one area you should spend more money on is a bed and your shoes because 'you spend your life either in one or the other.'  Great advice!

I do hope you have enjoyed your little trip around Hastings as much as we did.  And if you haven't been there before, it's certainly worth a visit.  Much less crowded and touristy than it's neighbour Rye & a really gentle day out if you let the train take the strain!

As ever please leave any comments below, I love reading your musings!
